Safe Space Notts February Training – A Brilliant Turnout

It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout for the latest Safe Space Notts training session, held this week at the Canalhouse. With a busy room of delegates from businesses across Nottingham’s day and night time economy, the session was one of the most well-attended Safe Space Notts trainings to date.

Delivered in partnership with Equation, the session focused on the practical side of what being part of the Safe Space Notts scheme looks like for businesses in real situations. Attendees worked through how staff can confidently respond when someone feels vulnerable or unsafe, and how venues can build clear processes that support both customers and employees.

Equation also delivered an important session covering the law and legislation around consent, sexual assault and domestic abuse. The training explored how these issues can present in public spaces and provided guidance to help frontline staff understand how to respond appropriately and safely. These discussions are an important part of helping businesses feel supported and prepared.

A key message throughout the session was that Safe Space Notts is not a one-off training session or a tick-box exercise. The scheme is built on ongoing partnership working between venues, organisations and city partners. Regular check-ins, continued training opportunities and adapting the scheme for different types of businesses are all part of making the initiative work effectively.

This collaborative approach is what helps create a stronger network of support across Nottingham and contributes to people feeling safer when they are out enjoying the city.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions. A number of the businesses who took part in the training are now working towards accreditation and will soon be added to the Safe Space Notts venue map.

Safe Space Notts is delivered through partnership working across the city, including It’s in Nottingham, the Consent Coalition, and Nottingham City Council.
