Broadway Cinema wins Nottingham Best Bar None Safe Space Contribution Award

Broadway Cinema in Nottingham wins the Best Bar None Safe Space Contribution Award for its leading work in safety, inclusivity and community support.

Broadway Cinema has been recognised with the Nottingham Best Bar None Safe Space Contribution Award, celebrating its outstanding commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive and secure environment for both visitors and staff. Known as one of Nottingham’s leading independent cinemas and cultural hubs, Broadway has long been more than just a place to watch films. Its programme of world cinema, local events, education projects and community-focused activities makes it a vibrant space where people from all walks of life can come together.

What set Broadway apart for this year’s award was its comprehensive and proactive approach to safeguarding and staff wellbeing. Judges praised the organisation for genuinely living and breathing the Safe Space Pledge. This includes establishing trained safeguarding leads across the venue, delivering regular harassment and race-awareness training for staff, and implementing the “Ask for Angela” initiative to support anyone feeling unsafe.

Broadway has also introduced a new Travel & Safety policy to ensure staff are supported before, during and after late shifts. Beyond internal policies, the cinema continues to champion inclusivity through its diverse events, workshops and screenings designed to offer safe, welcoming spaces for marginalised and under-represented communities.

The award reflects Broadway Cinema’s dedication to going above and beyond industry expectations. Whether through staff training, visitor support schemes or community engagement, Broadway continues to set a high standard for what a truly safe and inclusive cultural venue can be.
