We’re thrilled to celebrate Movers as the winner of this year’s Safe Space Notts Contribution Award at the 2026 Best Bar None Awards. This recognition celebrates a venue that has gone above and beyond to embed safety into everyday practice, and Movers is a brilliant example of exactly that.

Safety as Second Nature, Not a Tick Box

Over the past year, Movers has built safety into the fabric of how the venue runs. Their door staff and security team have been trained specifically on safeguarding and vulnerable customer awareness, backed by clear briefing sheets so every shift knows what’s expected.

Consistency has been key. Movers’ SIA-trained door staff, including Everton, work with the venue regularly, becoming familiar and reassuring faces for customers. That continuity means training isn’t a one-off, it becomes second nature, shaping how the whole team shows up for customers every night.

Three members of staff have trained as Safe Space Champions, delivered on site, giving customers dedicated points of contact whenever they need support.

Visible Support, Wherever You Look

Walk around Movers and you’ll find safety resources at every turn: the Proud to be a Safe Space Venue poster and Strut Safe materials on the main dance floor, further resources on the back area notice board, and a dedicated quiet space next to the comfy sofa stocked with an A-Z of consent, spiking awareness information, and domestic abuse helpline details. Even before customers step inside, the Certified Safe Space Venue sticker in the window lets them know what to expect.

Safety in Action

What really sets Movers apart is how these principles play out in practice. During a busy student event last October, staff noticed a young woman who appeared heavily intoxicated and potentially vulnerable. Rather than simply refusing her service, the team took her to their dedicated safe space, made sure she stayed with her friends, checked in on her regularly, and kept her supplied with water. They stayed with the group until she was safely settled, then personally arranged and monitored an Uber home.

It’s a powerful example of what Safe Space Notts is all about: not just having the right posters up but having a team who know exactly what to do when it matters.

Looking Ahead

Movers isn’t stopping there. The venue is currently enrolling in the Ask for Angela scheme, with materials on order and staff briefings planned. They’re also working towards joining the Shopsafe Radio network, helping the venue stay connected with the wider community and anticipate problems before they arise.
